Château Les Rambauds Les Abeilles Organic Bordeaux 2018

Ten years ago you really did have to pay more and expect less quality from Organic wine. In recent years the pendulum has swung dramatically in the direction of lower intervention, Organic agriculture and we couldn’t be happier about it! The 2018 Chateau Les Rambauds Les Abeilles delivers the most wonderfully generous, composed, and stylish sense of what Bordeaux is all about. It begins with an expressive nose that immediately informs that drinker that they’re in for a treat. Some wines are a bit shy on the nose but not Les Abeilles! Bountiful layers of violet liqueur and warm chocolate cake are neatly accented by hints of sun baked soil and Provencal herbs. The palate continues that same theme with a darkly complected entry replete with satisfying notes of blackberry puree and creme de cassis. The finish is impeccably dry but it’s certainly not edgy, favoring creamy kirsch, violet, and cocoa instead. Perhaps the 2018 Les Abeilles has some tannin but it is so neatly integrated into the finished product that it never stands out. Every sip of this delicious young Bordeaux serves as shining evidence of the way that a commitment to Organic vineyard practices pays big dividends in the finished wine.
Food Pairing:
When there’s steak on the menu at my house I always go wandering down to the wine cellar in search of a good bottle. 9 times out of 10 I find that I come up with a bottle of Bordeaux because I simply cannot think of a better pairing for a simply prepared steak. I’m more than happy to open a nice Willamette Valley Pinot or a cool old aged Northern Rhone Syrah as much as the next fancy pants sommelier but there’s no denying the fact that Bordeaux and steak are a match made in heaven.
