We run across a lot of great wine in the course of a week of tastings here at Mile High. Well, a couple of weeks ago one of our favorite suppliers called and said they needed to move some cases. So we negotiated a ridiculous deal on a perfect summertime “house red”. The 2013 Pepperjack Barossa Red uses a healthy dose of good ole Aussie Shiraz to add fantastic richness and plenty of that great blueberry jam and raspberry preserves to this delicious red blend. Grenache lends outstanding peppery spice and gobs of ripe red cherry fruit. And just a touch of Merlot softens the back of the palate and makes this one go down oh-so smoothly. All together, it’s actually a heck of a nice glass of wine. Let’s be honest, it’s not better than when Elway won two consecutive Superbowls, but it’s really freaking yummy to sip and it’s less than ten bucks. This one is going to go quickly, folks. The staff is already buying it up at a breakneck pace but we’re trying to leave, at least, a few cases for you guys too. Come by the shop tonight and taste it for free to see if you think it’s the right red for all your summertime sipping.
Food Pairing:
A hearty Australian red blend is the kind of wine that I like to say you could pair up with the spare tire of the car and it would still be yummy. This week’s special, the 2013 Pepperjack Barossa Red Blend is exactly that sort of wine. It is generous and full of fruit and spice. Pairing it with pizza, burgers, grilled veggies, or even a hearty lasagna will yield fantastic results. It is a fantastic candidate for your summertime “house red”.
