Château La Fleur Grands Landes Montagne Saint-Emilion 2015

Now that Fall has fully settled in here along the Front Range it’s time to start thinking about hearty red wine! This week we have a ridiculous bottle of Saint Emilion from the highly acclaimed 2015 vintage. This staggeringly pretty, Estate bottled Bordeaux from Chateau La Fleur Grandes Landes is sure to be one of the most intriguing and underpriced wines you’ll taste all year. The nose is awash with classic Bordeaux scents of cedar, mocha, violets, and crushed berries. Swirling and sniffing is sure to illicit a reaction from virtually everyone who is lucky enough to have a glass. It’s one of those bouquets that you won’t have to hunt for because it is right there! The palate is similarly effusive with wonderful flavors of ripe red cherries, zesty red currants, and macerated strawberries underscored by dutch process cocoa, new leather, and crushed granite. Drink it today. Drink it tomorrow, Drink it in 5 years. Seriously folks, this Bordeaux is right on point and it is going to make you all sorts of happy!
Food Pairing:
2015 is a generous Bordeaux vintage and, as such, it will pair up nicely with a wide range of meals as opposed to just the classic like prime rib or beef stew. With winter squash season in full swing, I’d suggest doing a cool presentation of halved roasted butternut squash stuffed with a mix of chopped grilled chicken thighs seasoned with Chinese 5 Spice, toasted almonds, and sauteed red apples. If you really want to church it up you could sprinkle a little crumbled bleu cheese over the top and let it run under the broiler for a moment before plating. Just think how seasonally appropriate it would be to have a platter of stuffed butternut squash at the table this weekend and a delicious glass of 2015 Saint Emilion alongside it! Just typing that has my mouth watering...
