Anne Amie “Two Estates” Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Anne Amie Vineyard is producing some of the best and most sincere Pinot Noir in Oregon today. That’s saying something because the Willamette Valley is widely regarded as being among the best places in the world to get premium Pinot. The 2014 “Two Estates” Pinot begins with a darkly complected nose replete with alluring scents of cherry cola, freshly dumped bourbon barrels, and warm baking spice. We’ll admit that isn’t a typical nose for Oregon Pinot, which is often lighter and more delicate, but the wine is so unctuous and seductive that all you can think about after smelling it for the first time is giving it a big taste. And what a great taste it is! Zesty Pinot Noir character pours out of the glass and onto the palate with exuberant layers of vine ripened strawberries, kirsch liqueur, anise, and cherry preserves. The creamy finish is so seductive and friendly with a nice pop of French oak to lend even more richness and structure to this excellent Red. Drink it today alongside a piece of barbequed salmon or toss it in the cellar for up to 5 years and watch the fruit and oak slowly mellow out allowing all of those lovely non-fruit characteristics to show through.
Food Pairing:
This delicious Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from Anne Amie straddles the line between delicate and bold with it’s bold nose and richly textured palate. As such I think it would pair up really well with a dish like barbecued salmon. I love to use a nice spicy barbecue sauce and a little bit of cherry wood to add some spicy smoky goodness to the fish. Add some grilled asparagus and a few roasted new potatoes and you’re on cloud nine!
