Folie a Deux Alexander Valley Cabernet 2016

As the weather settles into a typical Fall pattern here along the Front Range our thoughts begin to turn to heartier wine and richer food. This week we have an opulent Alexander Valley Cabernet for you that we are sure is going to impress! Elegant aromatic topnotes of midsummer flowers, sweet vanilla, and warm chocolate chip cookies waft out of the glass to greet you as soon as you go in for that first swirl and sniff. The nose is so lovely that you’ll want to keep swirling and sniffing as it evolves while this young Cab breathes. As pretty as it is on the nose, eventually you’ll have to go in for a sip. And what a nice sip it is! Classic Alexander Valley Cabernet flavors of homemade cocktail cherries, cranberry ginger relish, and macerated strawberries deliver real impact on the palate without ever feeling syrupy or overpowering. Then, as the wine slowly fades on the finish, handsome hints of toasty oak, bouquet garni, Tahitian vanilla, and loamy soil all drift into and out of focus giving the wine a real sense of style and generosity. This isn’t some massive Napa bruiser. Instead it is a full bodied, generous Cabernet that will be thoroughly pleasurable to sip with food and without. If you enjoy having a good glass of Cab then you certainly ought to consider picking up a six pack of the 2016 Folie a Deux because it feels, to us at least, like it hits all the highpoints at a surprisingly modest price.
Food Pairing:
For years I’ve been making this great cranberry ginger relish when fresh cranberries start to come into season at the grocery. We always serve it at our Thanksgiving table but it sees plenty of action on weeknights also since it keeps well in the fridge and reheats easily. The basics are simple with fresh cranberries, fresh ginger, and fresh orange zest making up the backbone of the sauce. I like to add a bit of ruby port to the pot as the sauce simmers and my kids would complain if I didn’t hit it with some brown sugar and cinnamon too. In any event, I suggest you grab a bag of cranberries and play with them in the kitchen a bit because eating them always makes it feel a little more like fall even if the temps are still in the 60’s out there. A fresh young Cabernet like the 2016 Folie a Deux will work admirably with that sauce whether you serve it over pork, chicken, or even beef.
You MUST mention this special or print it out to receive the price on the above wine.
