Mile High's "Wine of the Week": August 29th
Summer Pinot Noir Throwdown!
In the left corner we have the defending Champ. Hailing from sunny California, it’s Meiomi! And in the right corner we have the challenger. Hailing from from the Willamette (dammit), it’s the upstart Straight Shooter! Meiomi is undeniably hedonistic. Sipping it is pure pleasure. Lush layers of mocha, cigar box, blackberry jam, and sun baked plums get the party started while warm cinnamon, allspice, and fresh baked sugar cookies leave your palate feeling all warm and happy in between sips. Meiomi is lush and rich, there’s no doubt about that. But some folks prefer a somewhat more lithe and playful version of Pinot Noir. That’s where the Straight Shooter shines! Its nose is alive with scents of brambly raspberries on the vine, rose petals, damp forest floor, and burnt orange peel set the stage for good things to come. No surprise, the palate offers some real levity with excellent pomegranate, raspberry, and macerated strawberry that slowly mature into darker hints of sarsaparilla and bacon fat. I’ll be darned if they’re not both delicious. But you’ll have to be the judge of that. So, come on over to the shop this evening and help settle the score between these 2 great bottles of Pinot!
