Château Finet Bordeaux Supérieur 2016

Oh Bordeaux! How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love the way you age in my cellar and the way you pair with my steak! I love the way that you’re rich and smooth without ever becoming obsequious or, god forbid, sweet. Seriously, folks, drinking good Bordeaux like the 2016 Chateau Finet is such a treat. The appealing nose offers lovely hints of rose, Valrhona chocolate, crushed cherries and just a bit of sun baked soil wafting gently out of the glass to greet you. It is the kind of nose that lines up perfectly with the palate, making a promise that is sure to be fulfilled by the first sip. And what a nice sip it is! The 90 Point 2016 Finet has classic medium body with just the right balance of richness and cut. It offers up plenty of blackberry and black currant as the darkly complected entry gives way to the impressively savory finish, replete with layers of espresso, limestone rich soil, tar, cassis, and dutch process cocoa powder. It is not a show stopping wine, not the centerpiece of a collection. But it is mighty darn good to drink and delivers a textbook rendering of the epic 2016 vintage in Bordeaux. Though it is not an ideal candidate for longer term cellaring, it will provide excellent drinking over the next 3 years or so. That said, this one is likely to sell out because it is a screaming deal and we couldn’t get a whole lot of it. So, if you like good Bordeaux then you need to hurry over and taste this gem tonight at our free tasting bar so that you can snap some up for your wine rack before it’s gone for good!
Food Pairing:

I love the way that my food begins to get darker and richer in the Fall. Those perfectly fresh, unencumbered dishes of the Summer begin to give way to slowly simmered sauces and fattier cuts of meat. Lately I’ve been doing a roasted acorn squash split in half and then stuffed with a mix of sauteed breakfast sausage, mirepoix, mushrooms, and walnuts that would be totally perfect for this 2016 Bordeaux from Chateau Finet. The dish is lightly seasoned and sufficiently fatty  which should make for an excellent pairing since the Finet is so classically styled.
