The conventional wisdom clearly dictates that well heeled wine drinkers should serve Pinot Noir on Thanksgiving. And that’s fine with us. In fact, we’re pouring 3 awesome Pinots on the tasting bar on Saturday. But if you want to know what we’ll be serving at our holiday tables then read on. The 2017 Felicer from Feliciana Winery on the shores of Lake Garda is the kind of stylish, elevated, food friendly Red that we just can't get enough of. Tasting it is like biting into a perfectly ripe piece of fruit, picked in the height of the season. Buoyant notes of bursting pomegranate seeds, crushed cherries, and wild strawberries are so exuberant and alive on the entry while impressive Old world nuances of Provencal herbs, raspberry leaf, and potpourri deliver striking complexity on the finish. There’s no sneaky sweetness in this Red blend! The good folks at Feliciana love and respect us too much to do that! Instead the wine refreshes your palate with each passing sip, cutting right through all those thick layers of gravy and cranberry sauce and cream of this or that. You drink some Pinot if you want to. Heck, we probably will too. But you can be sure that the Felicer is going to take center stage at our table!
Food Pairing:
The 2017 Felicer from Feliciana is a wine that has fruit on full display. I’m reluctant to call it fruity since that term can be off-putting. But it certainly has great fruit. As such it will provide an excellent counterpoint to savory dishes. We will definitely be serving it at Thanksgiving at our house but it will make a fantastic companion to cured meats and cheeses, pizzas, and hearty pastas too. It is a wonderfully versatile Red that deserves to be considered in the same group as Barbera or Montepulciano when it comes to great Italian table wines.
