Chateau Puisseguin La Rigodrie Saint Emilion Organic Bordeaux 2017

We have plenty of good Bordeaux in stock. But I tasted the 2017 Chateau Puisseguin la Rigodrie and I couldn’t not buy it! You know as well as I do that when Bordeaux is good it’s really good. This Bordeaux is really freaking good. Pop the cork and it instantly delivers the kind of big, expressive bouquet that you usually have to wait through an hour of decanting to get. Big ole layers of bread pudding with plums and walnuts, toasted coconut, sweet vanilla, a touch of camphor, and freshly sharpened pencil kick things off in fine form. The entry is firm with zesty fruit tannin encircling impressive layers of crushed cherries, black currant puree, and over-ripe strawberries. There’s tension in this wine as it progresses through the mid-palate and onto the finish. It’s surprisingly evolved for a 2017 but certainly still young which is a lot of fun because it seems to oscillate between fruit and non-fruit with each passing swirl and sniff. The finish is darkly complected and thoroughly savory with hints of cold espresso, cedar, carving board drippings, and graphite lingering long between sips. Gosh! What a Red!
Food Pairing:

Well made Bordeaux is such a capable companion for hearty meals. You would be hard pressed to go wrong, really. Just fix something rich and savory and then kick back and let the wine do its work. Steaks, stews, roasts, braises, whatever! Drink this beauty for the next 3 to 5 years and delight in its evolution.
