Snow is in the forecast again at long last! So you need to rush over to the shop this evening and stock up on some killer Cabernet in order to be sure that you’ve got plenty of yummy red on your wine rack for the weekend. Quara’s 91 Point 2014 Special Seclection Cabernet is evidence of the maturation of the South American wine industry. This juicy red bursts with character and style. The nose is thoroughly layered and engaging with pronounced scents of brandied cherries, tar, smoke, vanilla, and grilled herbs. One sniff will surely get your mouth watering as you anticipate that first sip! And what a good sip it is! Bright and juicy on the palate, the 2014 Quara Cab offers up plenty of macerated strawberry, crushed cherry, and black currant. Unlike a lot of South American Malbec that we taste (which is all too often corpulent and one dimensional), the Quara Cabernet actually finishes with some lift which makes it seem thoroughly food friendly. It would make a great burger wine and would be even better with a big old platter full of marinated grilled fresh veggies. Either way, this stuff is solid and totally underpriced. Git some!
Food Pairing:
I know it’s a little early for farmer’s market veggies but there’s some pretty good stuff hitting the store shelves already and it’s got me thinking about how much I love a big vegetarian mixed grill. Planks of squash and zucchini, fresh artichoke hearts lightly steamed, nice thin asparagus spears, some sweet Vidalia onions, and maybe even some big hunks of cauliflower or broccoli all marinated in soy, bbq dry rub, and some grapeseed oil just sounds like a perfect way to kick back on Saturday night while the snow falls and the fire crackles.
