You don’t go naming a wine “El Miracle” unless it’s pretty dog gone good, right? This 90 Point Spanish stunner is delicious and, if you swing by the shop this weekend, you’ll be able to score enough to keep your wine rack full all through the Spring for less than seven bucks a bottle! It’s made from a grape called Garnacha Tintorera which is famous for actually having red juice (most red grapes have white juice and the color comes from the juice being in contact with the skins after they’re crushed). This appealing example is Spanish through and through. It begins with an attractive nose of ripe red berries, cedar, and thyme. Then, on the palate, it is medium bodied and generous with plenty black currant and red cherries as well as a hint of iron rich earth on the dry, slightly rustic finish. This is a fun one, folks. Buy a case and throw a big “Welcome to Spring” Spanish tapas party. We think you’re going to be shocked by the quality you get for such a modest price!
Food Pairing:
Despite the 2013 El Miracle being a fairly generous example of Garnacha Tintorera (they can get pretty meaty and aggressive) I think you’ll still want to pair it up with a good, hearty meal. How about a big ole bone-in grilled pork chop accompanied by a generous helping of cuban beans and some double fried plantains?
Then you can drizzle the whole plate with one of my favorite easy sauces. Bloom some guajillo chili powder in just enough boiling water to get it hydrated. Mix in an equal amount of fresh squeezed lime juice until you’ve got a nice thin paste. Add that mixture to some store bought ranch dressing in a ratio of 2 or 3 parts ranch to 1 part guajillo lime and stir it until it’s homogeneous. It’s a killer sauce that takes less than 5 minutes to throw together.
