Chateau Barat Bordeaux 2005

Lately we've been picking out big juicy monsters for the Wine of the Week. This week we decided to off you something a bit more refined.

The 2005 Chateau Barat Bordeaux is truly elegant in every way. The nose is simply exquisite showing delicate aromas of violets and subtle spice. The mouth-feel is rich and creamy with just enough tannin to remind you that this is Bordeaux from what may be the greatest vintage in a generation. Notice the soft flavors of black currant, plum, and earth as you enjoy the first sip. Savor it! This bottle is an experience. This is what Bordeaux is supposed to taste like. Composed of 52% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Petit Verdot. It's drinking very well now and should continue to soften and gain complexity for 3 or 4 more years in the cellar.

Food pairing:

When I tasted this bottle this afternoon I said, "This wine makes me want a steak real bad!" So in that spirit I suggest you head up to Whole Foods for a piece of filet mignon. Season it with salt and pepper and grill it off. Then make a simple side dish of roasted fingerling potatoes and zucchini tossed with butter, salt and pepper, and some fresh parsley.
